What is a "morning coat"?

A morning coat is a type of formal daytime coat worn primarily for weddings, formal daytime events, and horse racing events. It is typically made of wool, cashmere, or a wool blend and features a long, tapered tail at the back that is cutaway at the front, making it shorter than a traditional tailcoat. The front of the coat typically has one to three buttons and is usually paired with striped trousers, a waistcoat, a dress shirt, a tie or ascot, and dress shoes. Morning coats are often worn by the groom and groomsmen at weddings and are considered a formal and sophisticated choice for daytime events.
